Hello everybody, it’s Jim, welcome to my recipe site. Today, we’re going to make a special dish, my grandma's milk pie. It is one of my favorites food recipes. This time, I’m gonna make it a bit unique. This is gonna smell and look delicious.
My son-in-law has been trying to replicate (for years) a childhood favorite his mother made – milk pie! We all laughed and teased him until I found this delicious version which I'm sure is destined to become a family tradition. My Grandma Mary would always make me a milk pie if there was left over crust just for me. I could never find one as she would just pour the milk in the crust, sprinkle sugar and flour in, mix all the ingredients gently in the pie crust with a dainty thin "spatula" and then dot with butter and bake in her coal cookstove.

If you came over to visit her, she would expect you to eat cake or something else fresh from the oven, whether you were. Mix cocoa, cornstarch, beaten egg yolks; sugar and salt, then add milk gradually, while stirring in a pot over med-high heat. Cook until thick, beating it smooth. This is very similar to my Grandma Coleman's sugar pie.
Cook until thick, beating it smooth. This is very similar to my Grandma Coleman's sugar pie. One difference is, she did not add eggs. She made the pie crust and then dumped the dry ingredients onto the crust and added evaporated milk (another difference), stirring with her finger and adding milk as needed until she got just the right consistency. My mother and grandmother made this pie with buttermilk and eggs from our farm and set it on the tables at church meetings and social gatherings.
